Option 1 – Manage the Local Users via Windows PowerShell

  • You need to first open Windows PowerShell as an admin. To do that, just tap the Win + X keys and select the Windows PowerShell (Admin) option.
  • After opening PowerShell, you need to execute the “Get-LocalUser” cmdlet so that you can find all the details about all the local user accounts in your computer which would include the Account Name, Enabled status, as well as description.

You could also use the “Get-Localuser -Name john | Add-LocalGroupMember -Group '<NAME OF THE GROUP>'” cmdlet for the same purpose.
  • If you want to display all the User Accounts of a specific group, just use the “Get-LocalGroupMember –Group ‘ ’” cmdlet.
  • Now if you want to remove a local user account from a group, all you have to do is use the “Remove-LocalGroupMember -Group '<NAME OF THE GROUP>' –Member <NAME OF THE LOCAL USER ACCOUNT>” cmdlet.

Fix “Diskpart failed to clear disk attributes”
If you encounter the “Diskpart failed to clear disk attributes” error when you try to change the read-only state of a storage device using the Diskpart application and the request is denied, worry not for this post will give you a couple of fixes to resolve the problem. As you know, Diskpart is used for resolving read-only storage devices by changing their attribute via the command line. So if it is not able to change the attribute of the storage device, then you will most likely encounter an error such as this one. This kind of error is not uncommon and as long as there are no damaged physical attributes, you can resolve it right away. There are tons of reasons why you’re getting this error while using Diskpart, it could be that the storage device has a physical write-protected switch or the disk is hidden or has bad sectors. It could also be because the storage drive might be in RAW format or that you are running the Diskpart application without admin privileges. Whatever the cause may be, here are some options you can try to fix the problem but before you proceed, make sure that you log on to your PC as an administrator.

Option 1 – Check if there is a physical switch on the storage device

There are some USB devices and SD card readers that have a write-protected physical switch that disables all the writable options on the storage device and so if it is turned on, Diskpart won’t be able to change the disk attribute to writable. To check, simply look for the physical switch on both sides of the device and once you found it, make sure that it is toggled off and then plug the storage device back in then try running Diskpart once again.

Option 2 – Modify the WriteProtected key in the Registry Editor

Before you proceed, you have to create a System Restore Point first.
  • Tap the Win + R keys to open Run and type “Regedit” in the field and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  • Next, navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies
  • After that, look for the “WriteProtect” registry entry which is located on the left side of the window, and then double click on it.
  • Change its value to “0” and click OK to save the changes made and exit the Registry Editor.

Option 3 – Run CHKDSK to check the drive for errors

When it comes to some issues concerning the hard drive or removable devices, there is a utility in Windows that might help which is called “chkdsk”. This error check utility can help with several issues in the system including the “Diskpart failed to clear disk attributes” error.
  • Tap the Win + S keys to open the Search box.

  • Now if you are prompted to run CHKDSK after your reboot your PC, just tap Y and reboot your PC.
  • If CHKDSK is not able to find any errors, tap the Win + E keys and navigate the access window. From there, right-click on the concerned drive and click on Properties.
  • After opening Properties, click on the tab Tools and then click on the “Check” button under the Error-checking section.
  • Wait until the process is completed and then restart your computer.

Option 4 – Clear the attributes on RAW

  • Tap the Win + S keys then type “diskpart” in the field.
  • Click the Diskpart application and if a User Account Control dialog box pops up, click Yes to proceed.
  • After opening an elevated Command Prompt, type in the commands listed below and make sure to tap Enter right after you key in one command after the other.
    • list volume
    • select volume ‘n’ (In this command, you have to replace ‘n’ with the volume number of the drive)
    • format fs=fat32 quick (In this command you also have the flexibility to change the format to ‘ntfs’ or ‘exfat’)
  • After executing the commands given, unplug the removable storage device and wait for a couple of seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Now try any normal write operations and see if the error no longer appears.

Option 5 – Try checking the hardware components

Note that by default, the “Authenticated Users” have these permissions on any new Group Policy Objects or GPOs. Once again, you have to add just “Read” permissions and not “Apply Group Policy” for “Authenticated Users”. Furthermore, to fix the “Failed to build the list of regular subfolders” errors, here are some options that could help.

Option a – Try to clear disk space

You might have to check if your disk is running out of space because if it is, then it will fail to create a list abruptly. And so you need to free up some disk space. You can either check on the files manually especially if you tend to keep your files at random places in your disk drive.

There are two ways you can create Dump files – first is by modifying the settings in the Startup and Recovery and lastly is via the WMIC command line.     • Automatic Memory Dump – this means that Windows will create an Automatic Memory Dump file on BSOD
    • Active Memory Dump – this means that Windows will create an Active Memory Dump file on BSOD
Note: The complete dump needs a page file that is allowed to be the size of the physical memory installed in your PC with a dedicated 1 MB of space for just the page header.
  • Now once you have selected the most suitable option for you, just click on OK/Apply and then exit.
  • Restart your PC to successfully apply the changes made.

Option 2 – via the WMIC command line

  • The first thing you need to do to create Dump files via the WMIC command line is to tap the Win + X keys combination or simply right-click on the Start button and then select the Command Prompt (Admin) option. You could also type in “cmd” in the Cortana search box and then right-click on Command Prompt from the results and select Run as administrator.
  • After that, type in any of the commands given below depending on your preferences so that your Windows 10 PC will be configured to create Dump Files:
    • No dump file: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 0
    • Small Memory Dump: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 3
    • Kernel Memory Dump: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 2
    • Complete Memory Dump: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 1
    • Automatic Memory Dump: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 7
    • Active Memory Dump: wmic RECOVEROS set DebugInfoType = 1
Note: A complete dump has to have a Page file which is allowed to be the size of the physical memory installed on your PC accompanied by a 1 MB space for just the page header.
  • Now type in “exit” in the Command Prompt to exit it.
  • Restart your PC to apply the changes made successfully.

  • Now click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck the entry that says, “Turn on fast startup (Recommended).

  • Tap the Ctrl + Shift + I keys on your keyboard and then tap the F1 key to open the Settings tab inside the Chrome Developer Tools.
  • Next, select the Disable cache option while DevTools is open and apply those settings.

One of the particular issues experienced by users is that the Surface Dial fails to pair with every Windows 10 PC. At a time of writing, it is still not clear what the cause of the problem really is. Option 1 – Check if your PC supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE
